Awesome Recipes - Power Chili

Everyone knows proper nutrition is crucial to development as an athlete and baseball player. Sometimes proper nutrition gets boring and bland. Well, with the help of my girlfriend Tina, I am bringing you the first of our "Awesome Recipes" installment.

"Power Chili"

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lb lean ground meat (either ground turkey or 85% lean ground beef works well)
1/2 cup V8
1 can kidney beans(rinsed and drained)
1/2 can black beans(rinsed and drained)
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 jalapeno pepper (use seeds if you like it hot!! BE CAREFUL wash hands after handling)
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, with their juice

Directions:
Heat olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium high heat. Add chili powder, oregano, garlic, and onion. Stir and cook until fregrant (about 2-3 mins). Then add tomatoe paste and pepper cook for one more min.
Add lean meat breaking it up with a wooden spoon. cook for about 4-5 mins until meat lossees its raw color. Then add V8 and lower heat. Let simmer for 8-10 mins. When the liquid has reduced add tomatoes (crushing them in your hands) and the beans. Bring to boil. Then reduce to simmer and cover skillet allow to simmer for 30 mins. Serve with cheese and salsa.

This is a great recipe loaded with protein, quality carbohydrates, anitoxidants, vitamins and minerals. Plus it tastes great!

So whether you cook for yourself or someone prepares your meals, this is a great recipe to help your reach your performance goals...Don't forget to say "Thank You"!

Super-Fast Baseball Conditioning

Recently I received the following question on a message board...

"I have been lazy all summer, trying to get myself to get off my butt and run but it never happened until now. Now I am inspired to get in shape for baseball season but I've always had a problem with stamina. I tire out way too quickly. After two fly balls or backing up throws I get tired out and need to rest.

Tryouts start in January and i really need to be in good shape if i want to land a starting role on varsity. I know i shouldve been preparing all summer, but theres nothing i can do about that now....

My current workout schedule includes sprinting back and forth along the outfield fence (360 to center field, 320 to left and right), 40-50 pushups and 50-60 sit-ups a day. is this enough to get in into shape for the preseason workouts without having to go to the gym?"

I get questions like this all of the time...My answer? Here it is...

"General Physical Preparation...

Do the following for 30 seconds each in consecutive fashion...

Jumping Jacks
Shuffle Splits
Burpees
Mountain Climbers

2 minute "Rounds"...Take 60 seconds rest between rounds if need and lower rest period each training session."

Are you going to do it? Or just sit there??

Get up right now and go perform a round of GPP. Tomorrow perform two rounds. Get better. Each day. Every day.

Lost Emails

Each day I receive hundreds of emails from people all over the world asking questions regarding baseball training.

I do my best to get to every one. Usually I answer rvery email within 24 hours. If yu do not receive a response within 24 hours please be patient.

The big problem I am now seeing is that hundreds of other emails never reach me! This interested me so I started doing some research. Seems like millions, upon millions of emails each day get lost somewhere in Cyberspace.

Everyone assumes that I recieved their email and just chose to ignore it. Then they think I'm a jerk. This couldn't be further from the truth!

So if you send me an email with a training or product questions and do not hear back in a few days please resend, as I most likely never received in the first place.

For those who email with an ordering question and I do not get back within 24 hours please call me. Obviously these have a priority. In the order email I provide my personal, direct cell phone number. If I do not answer that means I'm with a client. I will call back as soon as possible.

I hope this clears up a lot of questions regarding emails.

Thanks!

Exercise Of The Week - Tripod To Stand

One of the most overlooked aspect of training is developing harmony and overall body awareness. For the baseball player this is extremely important and should not be overlooked. Developing these qualities can provide tremendous benefits such as increased flexibility, improved athleticism, increase core strength and reduced pain in shoulders, hips, elbows and wrists to name a few.

One such drill I use is the Tripod to Stand...

Be sure to have a spotter for this drill. From the tripod position simply perform a forward roll into a stand!
