My goal is to always bring to you products and services that you want. Considering the testimonials I receive on a daily basis I think I'm doing a pretty good job.

However, I want to know what kind of products and services you want to see that are currently being made.

I would like for you to email me at jondoyle@baseballtrainingsecrets.com and tell me exactly what you want to see from me and my company in the near future regarding baseball training.

I will select 1 person at random from all the email responses (names out of a hat...my GF will pick it) and they will receive a FREE copy of ANY product they chose! Yes, even my $400, yes $400, Million Dollar Hitter program.

Again, email me right now at jondoyle@baseballtrainingsecrets.com with what you want to see my company produce in the near future. And you can win your pick of my products...for FREE!

Thank You and have a great weekend.

How Much Water?

I am asked the following question quite often, "How much water should I drink every day?"

Simply take your bodyweight in pounds and drink an equal amount in ounces. So for example, a 175 athlete would aim to drink 175 ounces of pure water each day. On extremely hot days where a lot of fluids are lost through sweat, I suggest taking that number to 1.25 ounces times bodyweight.

If you are currently far under the recommended number do not try to make it all up in one day. Simply add 12-16 ounces of additional fluid every few days until you are at the desired amount.

Do not take this advice lightly. 2/3's of your body is water so it is extremely important you stay hydrated. Dehydration can lower your reaction time, speed, power, strength and increase risk of injury and level of fatigue.

You obvioulsy want to advoid all of this. Be sure you are gving yourself every advantage you can. ive you body enough water so it can perform th eway you want it to.

Got Core?

Core strength is all the buzz these days. As I have covered in the past, most so-called core training is basically a bunch of different crunches.

I have said it before and I'll say it again..."If You Are In Te Crunch Position On The Baseball Field You Aren't Doing So Well!!"

You absolutely need baseball core training to utilize explosive, compound movements that will teach your body how to become strong, fast and powerful.

Turkish Get-Ups (I teach it different than most), Home Run Presses, Windshield Wiper's (You'll love my version on the stability ball) and Windmills are a few of the exsercises you MUST do if you want to perform great, look great and be injury free.

If you don't have a copy of Unbreakable Abs what the heck are you waiting for? You can check it out by clicking here.

Pause Squat

The Pause Squat is one of the most underused exercises in baseball training programs today.

Done correctly it will increase strength (especially starting and reactive strength), speed, power, core stability and explosiveness. Just to name a few.

Here is how it's done...

1. Start with a barbell on your back. Feet shoulder width.

2. Push your butt back and Squat down to 90 degrees and pause. Keep good posture throughout, with head and chest high. Keep abs tight, but try and be relaxed.

3. Hold for 3-10 seconds.

4. Have a partner clap. When you hear the clap you explode through the floor and stand up.

5. Repeat for desired amount of reps.

The Pause Squat is a tremendous exercise to add to your training arsenal.

Be sure to use a lighter weight when first attempting this lift. The weight gets very heavy very fast!

Gloves Or No Gloves?

Quite often you will see weight lifters using gloves when working out. I simply forbid my athletes to use gloves at any time.

Why?

Because it completely eliminates one of the first things you learn as a child...Tactile Response.

Simply put tactile response is foundation of touch and feel. Without this, you simply cannot be in tune with your body and an impliment (bat, ball or mitt).

So drop the weight gloves and work on nerve connection, touch and feel. This will help with bat control, ball control, soft hands and many other baseball skills.

This is just another tip you won't get anywhere else besides Doyle's Dugout!

Confidence

For those currently in-season I felt it was necessary to remind you that you need one key ingredient in order to play well. It's not bat speed. It's not a rocket for an arm. It's not even a 6.5 sixty...

In order to succeed you need confidence.

I don't care if you are in a slump or are hitting .700. Every game, every at-bat, every ground ball and every pitch must be approached in a positive and confident manner.

As my old American Legion coach Kevin Cyr used to say, "Cocky and Confident!"

Fake it if you have to. I don't care. Just believe you are best man (or woman) for the job...and, before you know it, you will be!

Hip Mobility

Hip mobility is rarely, if ever, covered by strength coaches. However, most baseball players lack sufficient hip mobility. Those who have good hip flexibility have a tremendous advantage over their opponent.

What can increased hip mobility do for you?

-Increased multi-directional speed (Yes, this includes linear speed and the all-mighty 60)

-Increased ability to generate power using hips...This leads to an increase in throwing velocity as well as bat speed.

-Decreased injury risk in groin, hamstring, calf and lower back.

-Ability to get into positions on the field and at the plate that are needed for success. basically will help you become a better athlete.

These are just a few of the many benefits this often overlooked, but critical, athletic tool can provide.

Every game, practice and training session should begin and end with hip mobility work.

Sore Arm?

Sore arms and injuries are at an all-time high. While there are many factors that cause this I ask you to review the following list to ensure you are covering all of the bases (unintentional joke!)

1. Throwing mechanics
2. Core/Leg Strength (More specific - The ability to generate force from within)
3. Scapular strength
4. Forearm/wrist strength
5. Overall conditioning.

A large majority of shoulder injuries (above 80%) could have been prevented. Do yourself a favor and be absolutely sure you are doing everything you can to prevent injury...Doing so will also increase velocity and performance.

Pre-Game Meal

A solid pre-game meal should be eaten 1.5-2.5 hours before game time.

It should consist of low-glycemic carbs (Below 60 on the scale), 20-30 grams of protein and 7-15 grams of healthy fats.

This will give you energy to perform throughout the entire game.

Be wary of "energy bars" as their glycemic index is too high and they will cause a crash in energy levels.

Early Season Adjustments

I love the beginning of the baseball season for many reasons. One major reason is watching MLB players making major adjustments during games.

As these players work out their "kinks" in from our our eyes, there is a great deal to be learned.

Some major ones are hitters adjusting stances, pitchers adjusting release points and fielders adjusting to "live" baseballs.

Of course adjustments need to be made year-round in order to stay successful, the beginning of the season offers the most.

This is important to note because if you want to have success at every level you play, you simply must become very good at making adjustments "on the fly."

Where Is Your's Coming From?

Force...Please, get familiar with that word. It will determine how much power, speed and strength - or lack thereof - you have.

The great ones were either born with the ability to generate a great amount of force from within or they developed it.

It is simply impossible to succeed in the game of baseball without this crucial skill. Yet, very few develop it. Why?

Because they are not taught to. Most coaches are just worried about the weight on the bar. Who cares? It simply doesn't matter all that much. What matter is the way you move the weight on the bar, no matter how heavy or light it may be.

Moving a light object with great speed and control is one of the most difficult things to do. So please tell me why we don't do this in the weight room when a baseball bat weight between 17 and 35 ounces and a baseball weights much less.

I don't think many people would consider a baseball bat a "heavy" object, yet these same people would never lift a weight that is between 40-65% of their max.

Using a lighter weight will allow you to generate a much greater force from within...and allow you to take your game to the next level!

Now, I am not saying use super light weights. Just weights that can be moved explosively, controlled, yet provide sufficient resistance.

Healthy Protein Shake

I have received many questions regarding which protein shake is the best...I like to get as many nutrients as possible from whole foods...So here is my Shake receipe that I use post-workout to help increase recovery and muscle tissue/strength.

1 cup skim milk
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 banana
1 tbsp honey
1 scoop protein powder (whey or milk isolate)
1/2 cup frozen strawberries

This shake does a great job of replenishing gylcogen and supplying amino acids to the body. It is much healthier (and effective in my opinion) than the sugar-loaded shakes that are so popular these days.

This shake can also be used as a meal replacement.
